Joe passed away on 8/26-we had been friends for over 20 years. While we had our differences, his heart was as dedicated to disability rights as much as anyone I'd ever been around. Joe had Brittle Bone Disease and while his bones would break easily, he had a Will of Iron. I envied him for that a great deal.
RIP Joe...you are missed.
Friday I had off due to an Aunt of Suz's passing. We drove down to Naples, NY for the calling hours. Trip down was fine...nice area-great scenery. Coming back, it was pretty dark and these are TINY towns you drive through. Big deer area. So needless to say it was a nervous ride back to 5 & 20.
Saturday we had a wedding on the other side of the county Good time. I adore Suz's relatives. The Pastor gave the couple a beautiful Stained-Glass cross which her husband does as a hobby. I put an order in for one-it'll look terrific in our new house's kitchen window.
Today I'm at work doing Mandatory OT. I'm higher than a kite due to some allergy meds I took that Suz had.
Suddenly we can't get HBO--which we've had for 5-6 years....I called Time-Warner and they said it is now only available on Digital.....(SNORT)....
In good news the fence is done and looks terrific!
Today started with a bang....literally. The siding folks dropped a metal bar and it sounded like a gunshot! :)
Well the siding and new doors arrived today. We've already saved $100 by finding out one window was painted shut not damaged. Swipe with a razor and it opened like a charm.
The main stripping of the siding will start Saturday along with a new sliding door and front door.
The fence installers started this afternoon and expect to be done by Friday.
Wow--so much in a few days!
Well I have Friday off...much needed.
So much to do on the house. Electric-done. Suz has cleaned a LOT and the interior looks great. Now, we're preparing to get our fence installed. I had to go dive into the Town's maze of getting a permit to do so. Found it was amazingly easy. Ends up this is the slow time for permits. I'll pick it up Friday.
Thursday the mound of roots/trees/shrubs in our far corner will be removed along with several small trees that stand in the way of our intended fence's path. This will open up the yard a lot and allow us to ponder some further landscaping options in the future.
Saturday the guy who did the bathroom work (D) comes over to measure for siding. Then him, his wife, Suz and I will head to a wedding for a mutual friend. D's wife and Suz work together. The reception is at the same place we had ours. We really liked the owners so it'll be nice to see them again.
The electrician showed up and did everything I requested...plus a couple more minor items that would've needed to be done at some point.
Got quotes on yanking the trees in the backyard to make room for the fence and the fence itself.
Everything is coming together quite nicely!
Trying to get a reliable contractor is a challenge I am discovering.
1) #1 Electrician-had an appt to get a light in the back made into a Motion Detector light. Said I didn't need anything-no problem. Shows up--"Where's the fixture?". Was told I didn't need to get anything so we made an appt for last Tuesday.
1a) Tuesday-11:30-nothing...gave him til noon. Called-"I'm on my way". Gave him til 1:30-"Had to stop & buy a fixture-on my way." No show by 2:30-called and asked for a specific time he'd show up-"I can't do that-I'll be there." Now this guy KNEW I had to leave for work ASAP at that point. Again asked for a time-he declined, I fired him.
2) Called a 2nd electrician--explained my frustration. Scheduled an appt today for noon. Was promised he'd be here or I'd get a call. No-show, no-call. Called them back-"Oh I'm sorry you never got put on the schedule."
***WTF?!?!?!***
So I called my Realtor and got the name of a 3rd electrician. They said this guy has done all their family's electrical work for years and to specifically mention their name. Called him-mentioned the other two and he said they're known for that and he knows them personally. New appt--Thursday between 10-11am. We'll see if he shows.
Saturday was kind of tough...another temperature change, another headache.
Went to a local hospital to see a friend who had a Brain Hemmorhage within the past cpl weeks. Basically it's an extreme stroke.
He was able to recognize me and we had a short conversation. However, he was Aphasic so that what he wanted to say & thought he was saying, came out totally incomprehendable or as nonsense. That was tough. He's also in a really crappy hospital (IMHO-I'm biased as my father worked in the best in town).
If you don't bother identifying yourself somehow, please don't post a comment.
If you don't have the guts to identify yourself then you're spineless.
Wow...this is rough.
Woke up Tuesday with a killer migraine headache. Sat and held my head below my knees to try to clear my head. Walked Izzy-hit the couch for 2 hours. Then I could at least open my eyes without being flooded w/ pain.
Anyways another nap with Izzy later and the headache went away and I went to work fine...(1/2 day).
Today I won a bonus day off at work--woot!
