This isn't funny anymore.
Right after we moved in Suz came out one day to find our backyard shed and gates wide open-we had not yet locked them. Nothing was in the shed-no biggie. The shed is padlocked now and we have a tall new fence coming.
Last night 'bout 9 Suz heard something bouncing off the walls (like pebbles being thrown). Chances are with the wind it was part of the tree on the side of the house (which I'm taking a saw too this wknd) but I'm not totally convinced.
Therefore tomorrow I have an electrician coming out to install Motion Detector lights.
Fun but busy weekend....
The Fran Clan came into town and they stopped by Saturday night to see the new house. We had brunch with them Sunday.
Other than that it was unpacking and more unpacking. The Kitchen, Master Bedroom and bathroom are pretty much set.
After 2 modems, 3 days of calls and arguing-Time Warner first came out Thursday and "transferred" my service. Speed was slow but the SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio) was good (she showed me the stats display tool they have). She called the tech desk and they said the line looked good as well, and after some pushing they agreed to let her exchange the modem. Unfortunately she gave me the Toshiba Docsis but she suspected a BRAND new modem would be needed but their techs are only being given "refurbished" modems. The Toshiba's are notoriously bad among their techs. Later on the Cable light kept going out.
I called them and argued the point. Eventually I got a tech out for Sunday.
Sunday a tech came out. He agreed that it was a modem issue but he unfortunately didn't have any new modems. I told him he could not leave my site until I was guaranteed a new modem or I would leave their services. He called his manager and found another tech with a brand new Ambit modem. Plugged it all up-working like a charm.
Then I was setting my network back up-the IP was an EARTHLINK IP. Dumbfounded was the Blurf...PO'ed bigtime.
Called again..National Help Desk (blech). Explained clearly and calmly that this was the last straw-fix it or I'm out. Probably fearing for his life, I was given to a local person who said the tech never assigned the Mac Address to my acct. Needless to say he gave me a $25 credit-linked it up and I happily played 2 hours of Everquest.
ITS OURS---!!!!
We officially closed on the house today!
Well we discovered our Air Conditioning in the condo (ie OLD home) had an issue and we had a minor flood in the Furnace Room. We got a hold of the previous contractor, hinted we could damage his reputation and he fixed it at no charge. (Hint for future contractors-don't mess with us when there's money involved-we take no prisoners!)
In the new house, Suz got up this morning to let Izzy out and our shed (which had nothing in it yet) was wide open and our gate was open too. There is now a Masterlock on the shed and we'll have a Motion Detector Light installed soon. The Gate I'm not worried about. Its a chain link fence we hate...
Well we moved Saturday...20 people---3.5 hrs! Pizza and soda was had by all!
Glad it's over.
I signed the paperwork for selling the condo at the attorney's office today-there is light at the end of the tunnel!
I've been asked to blog about our church...
We attend First Baptist Church of Rochester with Pastor Ken Williams presiding.
The church is basically Conservative slanted Republican, however moderation has arrived in the acceptance of support of recent issues--such as supporting the right of a gay/lesbian person to be clergy in the church.
Ken is a wonderful man who knows how to really put things in perspective-such as when my father was sick. He's gentle yet has no issue giving you a verbal "smack" in the head to help you calm down and view things clearer. He has a remarkable passion that is exciting to watch.
He also married us...the preparation was great. We learned a great deal about our faith, and (obviously) about ourselves.
Thank you Ken for all you do.
All is well....we joined my family at my brother's house with a bunch of his friends. I went ATV'ing with one of his friends-thing is a "Cadimallac"--it rides like a friggin car!!!! Well...until it stalled.
Izzy didn't like the fireworks-she was terrified :(
Work is fine for now...status quo.
Got an estimate for a new garage door & assembly on the new house. Approx $1630-about $1500 less then we had budgeted for-we're really pleased.
T Minus 13 days to move to the new home.
