NYS Budget...

Bad...Really bad...

$105 Billion budget..$58 million of it is LOANS!! This included a 2.8 Billion Bond to take care of our deteriorating roads and highways...ANOTHER LOAN! Anyone see a problem here???

The local Legislature wants to be congratulated for finishing a budget on time yet the State of New York is being put further into debt.

Joe Bruno-Leader of the State Legislature, and others should NOT be congratulated, but instead be heavily questioned on the speed at the expense of our state's future.

Political Joke

From the forums at soundbytes.org

A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost. She lowered her altitude and spotted a man in a boat below.

She shouted to him, “Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am.”

The man consulted his portable GPS and replied, “You're in a hot air balloon, approximately 30 feet above a ground elevation of 2346 feet above sea level. You are at 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and 100 degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude.

She rolled her eyes and said, “You must be a Democrat.”

“I am,” replied the man. “How did you know?”

“Well,” answered the balloonist, “everything you told me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to do with your information, and I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help to me.”

The man smiled and responded, “You must be a Republican.”

“I am,” replied the balloonist. “How did you know?”

“Well,” said the man, “you don't know where you are or where you're going. You've risen to where you are, due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise that you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. You're in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but, somehow, now it's my fault.”

Laptop go boom

Downloaded Panda to nail some Trojans on my laptop and it crashed....

Brought it to work and a buddy of mine reformatted it. Now it sees my Wireless connection but won't give me an IP Address. Same distance from the Access Point-same software/hardware....using WEP. It takes the WEP password but won't pull an IP.

Frustrated as hell...going to try to uninstall and reinstall the Linksys Wireless-B software Friday or over the weekend...

In better news-we got out of babysitting Suz's nephews Saturday so it looks like some workout time and maybe a viewing of Robotz after a nice dinner. Bugaboo-yum friggin yum--good chow.

More Schiavo info

Here are some questions I have:

1) Why does Michael Shiavo actually deny family members from being able to see Terry at times?

2) Why, in the past, has Shiavo declined further medical tests? A Nurse has been quoted as saying that Terry CAN be spoonfed yet Michael refused to allow it to happen?

Michael recently said in a Larry King interview that he "really didn't know Terry's wishes".....while I don't dispute the brain damage issues-there are A LOT of unanswered questions/conflicts on the side of Michael Shiavo that need to be answered.

Schiavo situation continues...

In an effort to educate myself further on some details of this case.

The quote blows mentions the extensive brain damage but I can't find a link to any viewable scans. Does anyone have any??

Quoting from Abstract Appeal:

"Over the span of this last decade, Theresa's brain has deteriorated because of the lack of oxygen it suffered at the time of the heart attack. By mid 1996, the CAT scans of her brain showed a severely abnormal structure. At this point, much of her cerebral cortex is simply gone and has been replaced by cerebral spinal fluid. Medicine cannot cure this condition. Unless an act of God, a true miracle, were to recreate her brain, Theresa will always remain in an unconscious, reflexive state, totally dependent upon others to feed her and care for her most private needs."

Although the physicians are not in complete agreement concerning the extent of Mrs. Schiavo's brain damage, they all agree that the brain scans show extensive permanent damage to her brain. The only debate between the doctors is whether she has a small amount of isolated living tissue in her cerebral cortex or whether she has no living tissue in her cerebral cortex."

Terry Schiavo

The inevitable has happened and it is very sad.

I am conflicted with this issue.

1) You have a woman who is self-breathing (ie no ventilators) and shows signs of responsiveness to various stimulations.

2) This woman's husband has had speculation placed on him that he poisoned or caused her injuries by making her ill enough to stop her heart. While it is speculation, if she comes out of her vegetative state and it's true she could implicate him.

3) There is a Quality of Life issue here-no doubt.

However she has family who adore her and say she responds to them however the judge involved (Greer) has denied any testing to document and investigate this....WHY?

This woman's feeding tube has been removed now and she will literally STARVE TO DEATH ....this is wrong.

March 16, 2005

This coming weekend....

Suz and I are headed to the hotel near my old college. She's involved with a scrapbooking group called Creative Memories and they have a conference for a celebration called "National Scrapbooking Day". We have a blast-her best friend is in it.

I'll sit by the pool and chill and have the laptop in the room. Occassionally they need to research symbols or designs for the scrapbooks they make. Last year (although I had a brutal cold) I ended up doing research on Native American designs and lettering.

This is some much-needed relax time...then Easter comes...at some point we're going to see Robots at recommendation of the Fran Clan

The times...they are a-changing...

At Midnight today we move our desks to the other side of the center.

Our section of the company has been in its own part of the building since we started in 2000.

Now we're rejoining the main part of the building.....it's kind of like packing up your life.
