Well...tried not to take Nyquil last night...gave up at 4am :) I don't feel all that bad. Now I have a sore throat because my sinuses are unleashing gobs of crud on them. I also have gigantic tonsils (normal) that don't help.
I work tonight until 7:30 and then go home...Fran and Becky will be there. We'll drink until the walls start to tilt...eat DiBella's subs and have a Carvel's Ice Cream Cake for dessert. This to go along with the Cement Mixers and Nyquil's. During our hardcore drinking years Fran and I contributed recipes to the Internet Bartender's Guide.
Here's a couple recipes for you...
Cement Mixxer:
1 shot Bailey's & 1 shot lime juice
Open mouth. Pour in shots. Close mouth. Shake head. Swallow.
NyQuil
3 oz. triple sec
1 1/2 oz. sambuca
1 1/2 oz. grenadine
stir in lowball glass, then add ice
This Nyquil works better than the store-bought version...:)
Happy New Year's friends!!!!
Ok...today my head is better-not as sneezy but the body aches have returned...didn't wake up as fuzzy and disoriented as I did yesterday-that was nice. However I could've slept for 5 more hours with no problem. Tonight I think I'll just go home after work and go to sleep.
Wow when the holidays are in the middle of the week it screws your entire next week up.
Well the sinus-infection-wannabe has turned viral and has lodged in my throat-its gonna make working this week fun.
Other than that has anyone seen the new TV ads for AOL?? Too bad Jerry Stiller has turned to the Dark Side..god, even Snoop Dogg (whose music I hate BTW) was in it. AOL 9.0 Optimized--if you are considering AOL please reconsider..this CD will fuck up your system worse than anything you've ever seen. AOL reps say, "Just uninstall it if you don't like it"...sure...you try it.
First off-please go say Hi to Mark-really nice guy and is hubby to one of the most cool women on the planet!
We had an awesome lunch with the Fran Clan as they are up for the holidays. We gave Erin (daughter unit who is growing up way too fast-I'll get Fran to put a picture on his site) her presents as we won't see her again before they leave.
Still have this cold/sinus-infection-wannabe thing..it can't decide if it wants to settle in my chest or stay headward-MAKE UP YER FRIGGIN MIND! One way or the other I can tolerate-this rotation plan is bad.
Slight redesign of the site and updating of MT Version have begun, BlogMoxie has been contacted and negotiations are underway. I'm anxiously looking forward to the work.
Ok..here's how the past 2 days have gone...
Wednesday-I worked-joy. However, queue was deader than Michael Jackson's career at the moment. I was offered 3 hrs of un-paid time off-I bolted at 9pm. Got home, opened cards with Suz. Then slathered myself with Vicks, guzzled a cup of Nyquil and was in bed by 10:30. Much needed, this pseudo-sinus infection-wannabe was making me feel like crap.
This morning I got up at 7:00 am which is usual for me on Xmas Day. I really didn't sleep much but she drove so it was all good. Woke Suz up and we went to my parents' house-ate Brunch and did the Present Thang with them.
Then we hauled backside down to Perry NY for Suz's family's Xmas. We immediately opened presents. Good loot :) There was about 2 hrs of downtime between presents and dinner during which I fell over on the couch and was out cold, even with 2 little kids and a friendly Rottweiller buzzing around me. Woke up feeling extremely guilty for having keeled over but everyone said I was zoning during presents so it was a good thing. We got home at about 9pm. Suz was totally exhausted...she's imitating a bandsaw right now :)
My family gives me the funkiest stuff I swear...but I love it.
Just to name a few:
1) Headband Light-Since I'll be taking our puppy for walks after work, shortly after midnight this makes sense. Maybe I'll go for mining for gold on weekends :)
2) Head Massager-My Brother said "a Russian woman assaulted him in a Virginia mall and he had to buy it or he'd get beat up." Somehow I think I believe him, but this thing is SO COOL. Much use will come..
3) The Ric Flair DVD Collection-One of my few guilty pleasures is Monday nights I watch WWE "Raw"...yes professional wrestling. Sure it's a soap opera for guys but at the end of the busiest night of work of our week, a wasteless brain-drain isn't such a bad thing.
Other than that, lots of really nice work-clothes and of course the Xmas requirement....
NEW UNDIES!!!
Have a great Friday
Stay safe my friends...and eat well :)
Let me present a poem written by a family friend:
As we celebrate this season,
When the Shepherds, long ago,
Saw the angel, heard the reason
Why to Bethlehem to go,
Let us share the Christmas Joy,
Spread the word that Christ is born.
See the lovely saviour boy
On that wondrous Christmas morn.
As we now enjoy this meal,
We are truly blessed today,
Having friends with whom we feel
Bonded in a special way.
Our friends are the group,
Yes, a group that has a flair.
If you want the honest poop,
Jesus Christ is whom we share.
So, as Christmas day comes near,
May we join is solemn prayer,
That will soon be gone the fear
That inflicts us, here and there.
That the time of war will die.
That the conflicts all will cease.
That as Jesus Christ draws nigh,
This world will at last have peace.
-J. Auer 12/16/03
Inspiration first...Brett Favre, Green Bay Packers QB. His father dies suddenly...
He plays anyways...4 TD's 399 yards...simply amazing.
Hypocrisy last...Rush Limbaugh bitching about his medical records being opened during a federal investigation. Smells like guilt somewhere.
"Let's see, where was I goin? I forgot. Seemed important at the time. Well I guess I'll just lie down here under this chair".
This is disgusting! I've never been a supporter of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals...but this drops them a notch below disgusting in my book. They have gone beyond the point of being a radical leftist group-they have gone to being useless and a waste of good office space in my book.
NOTE: Do not display with children around.
They're printing a comic and giving it out to kids.
Can't a campaign be built to demand the end of distributing this comic?
I've got that new...glasses...feeling...oye. Don't ya hate the first few days with new glasses. The new pull on your eyes....never mind that I have the prescription from hell. The frame is much more solid though...
Christmas...New Year's....it's my favorite time of the year.
I have always been lucky to have New Year's Eve off in some manner-even leaving 1/2 a day early. It looks like this year will be the last "Get-out-early" for a couple years. We now have to work either Xmas Eve or New Year's Eve...Christmas Eve always wins by default as it's almost as religious to me as Christmas itself.
Every year I (and now Suz & I) host a small New Year's Eve party-usually the Fran Clan attends along with maybe 1 or 2 others. Erin, the Fran Clan's child, usually goes with her cousins or grandparents for the night. We drink, eat, drink, open presents, drink some more, watch DVD's...we have a blast and I truly look forward to this every year.
There are stories of me getting drunk and looking like a spider swatted with a newspaper-on the floor on my belly, limbs sticking out oddly and a few drunken groans emitting from my body (yes Groans! :)). Of course the first year Becky joined us, they got so hammered the walls had to tilt to accomodate their inability to walk. It was hilarious.
This year will be no different. I'll get out of work 'bout 7:30 or 8 and fly home. Quick shower during which I take a gigantic breath and slowly release the pressures of the day. Then dig into whatever food we have...this year was decided on DiBella's sub sandwiches (mmmm, make me a samich!).
Ever have one of those days when you sleep like a rock but you're still beat when you get up? Oye...I think Suz's cold may be trying to get to me but I'm avoided any obvious effects so far.
Might also be the weather bouncing up and down...at this point if we had a real deep freeze and it stayed that way I wouldn't be too upset.
For those interested in Everquest-a friend of mine has left EQ and given me his Level 52 Druid Beffas...I love it. Its fun to play an uber-high level character on occassion. Also gives me experience at working with some of the high level skills and abilities. In other character news, my other druid Cyttan is Level 36 but I've taken a break with him. My Beastlord Tunnra is Level 11.
Well another weekend has ended...
First off, Saddam Hussein down and out...Yay team! Ok, time to bring our boys home now..mission accomplished!
Friday night Suz went to Perry for pre-Xmas decorations/wrapping with her Aunt & Grandmother. I had to work. Then I went out with our pastor's daughter E (she also sang at our wedding)-she's a really good kid. Well we had a blast with some other friends of mine from work.
Then her dumbass Boyfriend showed up when she had told him not to. He immediately set of Bells in our heads-something about him is not right. Told her due to the drinking (we didn't drink a lot at all) and bad weather, I would follow her home. On the way following her he apparently started acting like an assclown and demanding she go home with him and stay there-she didn't want to. Well with his BS she started driving faster and I lost them. I went home-got home about 3am. She called 'bout 3:30 to say she got home ok after a massive fight with this guy in which he took her keys and refused to give them back for a short period of time. Well E kinda sees me as the older brother she never had (so she says)-I told her flat out-Drop this kid...he has no job yet has an expensive Cell Phone and could afford a taxi from deep in Rochester to the bar we were at in Henrietta. I suspect he deals...for her sake I hope not and that she listens to me. 23-year old single Mom living with her parents-she can do better and I told her exactly that. If I see him again....
Anyways Suz had fun in Perry although she's got her Pre-Xmas Sore Throat & Hacking Cough. I've managed to avoid it.
8" of snow on the ground...I've gone out and shovelled twice today. Now they say it'll be 40 on Tuesday-Make up your freakin mind!
Great story about celebrities and love for fans, especially ABBA fans, at Fran's Blog.
For those that remember the post awhile back, Fran's family cat Pixel had gotten cancer and was not doing well....well Pixel has passed. Pixel was an exceptionally cool cat (and I don't like many cats). This is a loss...Pixel wasn't just a cat, he was a companion to Fran as he grew up...
Pixel and I used to play catch..seriously. He'd go on top of the tallest kitchen cabinet and bat his stuffed mouse back at me as I threw it to him. As my allergies grew and I couldn't get near him anymore I would stick my head in the door and he'd just touch nose-to-nose with me to say Hi. That was a unique kind of cool.
Please stop by and give your condolences.
For as Marsha states on her blog-"There is no such thing as 'just a cat.'"
RIP my little "I-didn't-call-you-fuzzy" friend...:(
Ok I've had it....supposedly all these tickets were going to be handed out for people talking on cell phones while driving. Well, on the way to work I narrowly avoided 3 accidents....yes 3 because people were too interested in the cell phones they had up to their ear (not hands-free) rather than watching the road!
C'mon-let's get on the ball and enforce a good law for once!!!
Harleys
The inventor of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle, Arthur Davidson, died and went to heaven. At the gates, St. Peter told Arthur, "Since you've been such a good man and your motorcycles have changed the world, your reward is, you can hang out with anyone you want in Heaven."
Arthur thought about it for a minute and then said, "I want to hang out with God."
St. Peter took Arthur to the Throne Room, and introduced him to God. God recognized Arthur and commented, "Okay, so you were the one who invented motorcycles, eh?!"
Arthur said, "Yeah, that's me..."
God commented: "Well, what's the big deal in inventing something that's pretty unstable, makes noise and pollution, and can't run without a road?!"
Arthur was apparently embarrassed, but finally spoke, "Excuse me, but aren't you the inventor of woman?"
God said, "Ah, yes."
"Well," said Arthur, "professional to professional, you have some major design flaws in your invention:
1. There's too much inconsistency in the front-end protrusion;
2. It chatters constantly at high speeds
3. Most of the rear ends are too soft and wobble too much;
4. The intake is placed way too close to the exhaust;
5. And the maintenance costs are outrageous!!"
"Hmmmm, you may have some good points there," replied God,"hold on."
God went to his Celestial super-computer, typed in a few words and waited for the results. The computer printed out a slip of paper and God read it.
"Well, it may be true that my invention is flawed," God said to Arthur, "but according to these numbers, more men are riding my invention than yours.
I am a traditional guy...I love traditions and some of the best ones happen during the holidays.
Hall of Fame NFL Buffalo Bills QB Jim Kelly said that his favorite holiday tradition is the Family Touch Football game he has with his family on Thanksgiving before the meal.
In our family, the church's Christmas Pageant has always been a tradition. As a child and youth I was an active participant, almost always performing one of the primary speaking roles (narrator, etc). As an Adult I have joined my family in attending and watching the different adaptations of the Christmas Story. Tonight Suz joined us for her 2nd year in this tradition. Then we had the annual Congregational Christmas Feast followed by Santa giving presents to the kids and a round of carol singing.
As I grow older, I see what our church has done for me...what it has taught me..the friends I've made...now it means that much more.
What are your traditions??
The redesign will hold off for now....people have graciouslly sent me my images back from their cache...thanks go to Michael and Fran for their assistance.
Haven't done this in awhile....from the home office, it's Friday Five!
1. Do you like to shop? Why or why not?
Anytime but the period between Xmas & New Year's-yes. Otherwise I despise the crowds.
2. What was the last thing you purchased?
Presents for the Fran Clan bought online.
3. Do you prefer shopping online or at an actual store? Why?
If its a heavy item and Suz isn't with me-it has to be online....I can't lift heavy stuff. Web shopping is definitely more relaxing when done in your tighty-whities and with a Vanilla Coke in hand. :)
4. Did you get an allowance as a child?
Yes.
5. What was the last thing you regret purchasing?
I regret nothing.
Well Winter has arrived in all its glory....18 degrees and snow on the ground when I went home last night. Then again when you have a van with a great heater (and an Remote Starter) and you listen to the Trucking Bozo on the way home, it's not so bad.
Got my flu shot before work. Last year I had a bad reaction to it and was sick as hell that night-considering I'm at work I hope I avoid it this round.
Generally when you're a well known blogger-is it a real good idea to post that a family member is interviewing with other companies and then shred the current employer? I know a person here in town who stumbled onto a co-worker's blog and putting 2 & 2 together, turned the co-worker's boss onto his blog and eventually the person was fired even though descriptions were vague with no names. May just be my view but yikes.
I spent a good 10 mins typing up an entry last night on our weekend trevails only to realize I never published it....*sigh*.
Long & short of it-Carnivale is done for the season and I'm in withdrawl already, however Angels of America starts a 2 Sunday run and looks fantastic.
My glasses broke-right lense keeps popping out. My insurance doesn't pay for an exam for another 3-4 months but I couldn't wait. The groove in my lense to hold it in the frame is cracked...new lenses needed. With all discounts/using my Flex acct at work out-of-pocket cost will only be just under $100...not too bad.
