January 26, 2004This award show is fun because it's looser than the Oscars and more free thought occurs. The Awards are voted/decided on by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Let me point out a few spots on the winners:
1) The Office won for "Best Television Series-Musical Or Comedy" beating Sex & The City. The clip of The Office they showed was totally NOT funny. However Sarah Jessica Parker won for "Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series-Musical or Comedy" and was absolutely giddy. It's gonna suck when the show ends in 4 episodes.
One thought tho-Fran pls comment. One of the characters Samantha played by Kim Cattrall-has Breast Cancer. I normally don't like how TV portrays Cancer patients (victims, might-as-already-be-dead, blah blah). However I love that they are keeping the character strong (albeit scared) and determined. Its a much more realistic view.
It is terrific to see Mikhail Baryshnikov again too.
2) Angels In America and Six Feet Under-both HBO material won a few awards...Al Pacino was amazing in AinA. Can't beat that...can't wait for Six Feet Under to return. The female star of this show-Frances Conroy won a G.G. tonight.
NOTE: Sopranos returns March 7th (Suz's bday).
3) From other interviews and such I've always thought Michael Douglas was a cocky jerk...however he won the Cecil B. Demille Award and gave a very humble and delightful Acceptance speech. I was wrong.
Posted by pboulay at January 26, 2004 02:34 AMWe are religious followers of the show and are also very sad that it's ending. The way Samantha is dealing with the cancer is very in tune with her inner strength as a woman and as a human being. Yes, she's scared, but little by little she's learning that she's not alone. Look at Smith, he could've bailed on her when she pushes him away, but no, he choses to stay. He hasn't said it in those three precious words ,I Love You, but his actions have said it in volumes. He supports her through actions and it allows Sam the ability to continue her fight and to not go through it alone. He doesn't treat her like a victim of cancer, and this allows her to live her life as she's always done... on her own terms. We no doubt feel that she will beat this and in the process, learn that love in its purest sense does exist and she can open herself up to it again.
Now, as for the other three girls, this is how we feel the series should end...
Carrie- her two greatest loves are NYC and Big. Even if she and Big never marry, they deserve one more chance to get it right. He's the one for her and she for him. Everyone has one great true love, and for Carrie, it's Big!
Charlotte- she and Harry were just blessed with a beautiful puppy, but her true desire is to have a baby. It would be a great travesty to end the show and not let Charlotte have the one thing she desires more than anything... a child of her own.
If they end the show without her being pregnant
from her IVF's, that would be the biggest let down of all, even compared to if Carrie doesn't get Big.
Miranda- our fearless lawyer is packing up her Manhattan apartment for a house in... Brooklyn! Can you believe it? She's the first one of the group to have a family, and while her girlfriends are very important to her, she now has a husband and child to consider in her future, not just herself anymore. It's time to break away (just a little) and say good-bye to the old(er) and embrace the future.
These woman have come into our homes and made us laugh, made us cry, made us think, and made us forget. They are more than just four NYC gals on a search; they are bright, beautiful, full of life and love, and have become our friends and family. I will miss them very much. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for the memories- Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis. Your characters will be sorely missed!
