Thoughts on George Carlin

From my George Carlin calendar:

"Here's something I consider a crime against society:
Women with hyphenated names. Hey, lady! Pick a name, will ya?"

This is an issue, that while it wasn't one in our union, I have seen other couples bicker incessantly when asked why they did it. Suz and I decided early on-her birth last name...history. Too many bad memories and ghosts on that side of the family.

I understand the idea that some wives feel they need to "maintain their identity", but for us...and I suspect other friends (Fran?), that we celebrate that while we are still individuals, we are now a union...a family.

Although I have to admit I've caught myself a couple times calling her my fiance' still-she's done the same thing in talking about me. Anyone else have this experience?

The dreaded name change issue. My mom was totally behind my sister-in-law changing her name, to the point of getting in arguements with the in-laws about it. But when I told her that I was changing my name OMG! Talk about a disaster, by doing that I struck a blow against womans equality that the world may never recover from.
Its been a year..... she still brings it up...sigh.
P.S.- I got a defective coffee lid and just ruined a shirt- now I have to walk around all day with a huge stain between my... on my chest. Is it friday yet?
